Jr. MUN - Model United Nations

Model United Nations (Jr. MUN) Tackles World Issues

This week, the Jr. MUN team participated in the Henri Pell Junod, Jr. Middle School Conference hosted by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA). Our team was one of eight schools participating virtually this year with a total of 89 delegations spread out over five United Nations committees. This year, our team represented delegations on the following committees: United Nations General Assembly (GA), the United Nations International Children's Foundation (UNICEF) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) . Students researched their country and committee topics writing a position paper outlining their country's position on those topics then defended those positions during debate and resolution writing.  Shore students tackled global issues involving systemic racism, the educational response to Covid-19 and the ongoing issue of child marriages. Our team consisted of Lucas Arslanian and Ellen Freeman representing the delegation of New Zealand  and Zoe Barninger representing the delegation of France in GA. On the UNICEF committee we had Maddie Grice representing the delegation of Brazil, Noni Arndt representing the delegation of Turkey, Juliana Nichols representing the delegation of Afghanistan, and Loren Wandersleben representing the delegation of Germany. Rounding out our team, we had Gabriella Quigley and Angela Korzunowski representing the delegation of Ireland in UNESCO.  The delegates were all actively involved in debate and each delegation was an integral part of passing resolution papers that worked toward solving these global issues.  Congratulations to all on a wonderful conference as well as those who earned awards today!!
